Understanding Heat Drying

Tuesday 27 September

9.00am - 3.00pm

A new course “Understanding Heat Drying” explores the transformational effect drying with heat can achieve in the restoration of a flood damaged building.

Great advances have been made in recent years in drying equipment and methods, but there remains a bottleneck to our current drying systems. This bottleneck is evaporation. We have excellent equipment for removing water vapour from the air, but we have been limited in the ability to get the vapour into the air – evaporation.. If we could speed that process, we could speed the overall drying process.

With the current techniques and equipment available to us humidity and airflow seem to get the most attention. Temperature control is usually limited to keeping the temperature in optimum range for dehumidifiers and the comfort of the occupants, but when properly applied, temperature, in the form of heat energy, can be a great help to drying.

Bob Spencer a director of the BDMA (British Damage Management Association) will explore the emerging transformational effect drying with heat can achieve in the restoration of a flood damaged buildings. Combining controlled heat and air flow to produce high-speed evaporation can dramatically improving the drying process for the fastest drying ever!

The subject is explored through a combination of technical instruction, videos and real life case studies, plus delegates will also practice how to set-up a heat drying system on site and learn more about monitoring the drying process.

This one day course ‘Understanding Heat Drying’ has been designed to provide an introduction to the basics of heat drying and is the only course of its kind offered in Australia. The Course will be held on the 27 September 2011 in conjunction with The Ausclean Convention and Mould Conference being held At Jupiter’s Casino on the Gold Coast on the 27th and 28th September 2011.

About the Instructor

Bob Spencer
Honorary Fellow BDMA (British Damage Management Association)
Senior Technician BDMA
IICRC Certified Water, Fire & Smoke Technician and ASD Technician MBICs

Bob has been in the Damage Management industry for over 30 years, starting as a Technician for the franchised operator ServiceMaster, he then with his wife ran their own ServiceMaster Franchise for 10 years. Then was asked to join Rainbow International as operations manager, Rainbow was then a small regional business of less than half a million English pounds annual turnover in the Damage Management industry.
Bob over the 17 years at Rainbow trained 180 franchise owners on how to successfully run a Damage Management Franchised business, and in excess of 600 Damage Management technicians and several hundred Insurance claims handlers, when he left Rainbow in 2007 the Rainbow business had an annual turnover of $150 million.

Bob runs his own consultancy and training business, and has been an active member of the BDMA since it began in 1999 becoming a Director in 2004 and Chairman for 3 years 2005, 6 and 7, he currently acts as the training co-ordinator for the BDMA and is on the steering committee at Wolverhampton University developing a Foundation degree in Damage Management
